A ceiling-mounted extinguisher is usually an automatic fire extinguisher - which is activated by heat in the early signs of a fire - which is suspended from above and fixed to the ceiling. When the fire extinguisher goes off, from this high position, it ensures a large area is covered to be the most effective.
How Are Ceiling-Mounted Automatic Extinguishers Installed?
Supplied with a bracket as standard, the ceiling-mounted automatic extinguisher will need the fixings which are appropriate for the structure you’re installing this to, whether it is plasterboard or concrete. However, please bear in mind the weight of the unit – if you think the ceiling will not support the automatic extinguisher you require, take a look at our wall-mounted solutions.
Your automatic fire extinguisher for ceilings should be installed as centrally as possible. This means all corners of the room are protected equally and gives the extinguisher the best chance of being activated as early as possible in the event of a fire. However, please be careful of placing this over any equipment which may get hot during normal operation.
What Size Automatic Extinguisher Do I Require for My Ceiling?
You will need to know the size of the room you are looking to protect. As an example, our 10kg automatic extinguisher is large enough to cover an area of up to 28 m2. Our 1kg compact automatic extinguisher will only protect a small room of 3 m2.

What Type of Ceiling-Mounted Automatic Extinguisher Should I Choose?
Powder automatic fire extinguishers are the most cost-effective solution. Suitable for Class A (wood, paper, cloth, etc), Class B (flammable liquids) and Class C (flammable gas) fires, it is also safe to use around live electrical equipment. However, powder extinguishers can impair breathing and vision – which isn’t such an issue for unoccupied areas – but will also corrode sensitive equipment.
